Wisconsin was admitted to the
Union as the 30th state on May
29, 1848. Wisconsin is located
in the north central United
States and is bordered to the
north by Lake Superior, the
northeast by the Upper Peninsula
of Michigan, on the east by
Lake Michigan, to the south
is Illinois on the south and
Iowa and Minnesota on the west.
The capital city is Madison
and largest city is Milwaukee.
Wisconsin is one of the leading
states in agriculture and has
fertile farmlands throughout
the state. Wisconsin is known
for its cheese production and
is sometimes called the Cheese
Capital of the Nation or America’s
Dairyland. The greater part
of the state is composed of
rolling plains that yield productive
crops and fodder for the dairy
industry. Wisconsin also has
substantial heavy industry,
centered around Milwaukee and
nearby cities along the shore
of Lake Michigan. The growing
season ranges from less than
90 days in some areas of the
north to more than 160 days
along parts of the Lake Michigan
shore.

cattle, hogs, vegetables, corn,
cranberries.
Industry: Machinery, food processing,
paper products, electric equipment,
fabricated metal products, tourism.
Wisconsin is also known for
its natural beauty, many clear
lakes, streams, rivers and green
forests. Wisconsin is also known
for many cultural attractions,
Harley-Davidson motorcycles,
and the Green Bay Packer legends.
Wisconsin has a humid continental
climate. Winters are long and
cold throughout the state with
a lot of snow. Summers are short,
hot and humid. Spring and fall
are very pleasant throughout
the state with a lot of rainy
days and spring thunderstorms.
Statewide average high temperatures
in June and July is 80+ degrees
and occasionally in the 90's.
Average statewide highs temperatures
in January is 15 degrees. Extreme
cold conditions are possible,
and over-night low temperatures
below zero are normal
