The official state flag of
Mississippi was adopted in 1894.
Mississippi state flag has a
small Confederate Battle Flag
in the upper left corner which
is called the "union square".
There are thirteen white stars
on a St. Andrew's Cross, and
horizontal blue, white and red
stripes which symbolize the
number of the original States
of the Union.
Mississippi became a state
on Dec. 10, 1817 as the 20th
state. The state capital and
largest city is Jackson. Mississippi
is considered part of the Deep
South and borders Alabama, Arkansas,
Louisiana, and Tennessee. Mississippi
got it’s name from the
Mississippi river which flows
along the western boundary and
empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
Mississippi, with its rich
soil, temperate climate and
many rivers, is an agricultural

in the state which cover more
than 10 million acres. Other
important agricultural products
are soybeans, corn, rice, hay,
sweet potatoes, watermelons
and other fruits and vegetables.

too cold or too hot. Winter
temps average in the high 50's;
summers in the high 80’s.
The overall climate is mild
and pleasant year-round with
an annual average of 65 degrees.
