The official state flag of
Colorado was adopted on June
5, 1911. The red, white and
blue colors were adopted from
the US flag. The red "C"
stands for Colorado, the Spanish
word for red. The white in the
flag symbolizes Colorado's snowcapped
mountains, the blue symbolizes
clear blue skies, the red symbolizes
the reddish soil, and the golden
yellow represents the Sun. Attached
to the flag is a cord of gold
and silver, intertwined with
gold and silver tassel.
Colorado was the 38th state
in the USA and became a state
on August 1, 1876. It is the
8th biggest state in the US.
The state capital and also largest
city is Denver. Denver is nicknamed
the mile high city because it
is 1 mile (5,280 feet) above
sea level. Colorado is the third-fastest
growing state in the U.S.
Major Industries - agriculture:
wheat, cattle, sheep, tourism,
mining; gold, silver, oil, finance,
and manufacturing . The primary
crops in Colorado are corn,
hay, and wheat Colorado's economy
is mainly service industries,
including medical providers
and other business and professional
services. Colorado's economy
also has a strong manufacturing
base. The primary manufactures
are food products, printing
and publishing, machinery, and
electrical instruments.
Colorado has the most beautiful
and impressive scenery in the
U.S., and contains many of the
country's best skiing conditions
and premier skiing resorts.
Colorado is a great destination
at anytime of the year and Colorado's
main industry; tourism, attracts
millions of campers, family
vacations and outdoors lovers.
The Rocky Mountains cover about
two thirds of the state with
many of the mountains that exceed
14,000 ft. Colorado has the
highest mean altitude of all
the states. To the east of Denver
the Rocky Mountains meet great
fertile plains where the terrain
is flat.
Colorado has over 300 days
of annual sunshine and low humidity.
There is more than 300 inches
of snow in the mountain resorts
on a yearly basis. The summers
are consistently cool and pleasant,
and winter offers an endless
supply of perfect, powdery snow.
Weather conditions can change
very quickly in Colorado. Summer
high temperature average 85
degrees, with lows in the 40s.
Mountain highs are in the mid-70s.
In the winter daily highs are
near 30 degrees, while lows
can dip to 0 degrees.
